Fight heart disease at luncheon: See photo gallery

The Saint Thomas Heart at MTMC Women and Heart Disease luncheon will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Embassy Suites.

Spokesperson for MTMC Go Red For Women initiative, Amy Marsalis, will host the event and Dr. Britton G. Mioton, invasive cardiologist at Saint Thomas Heart at MTMC, will be the guest speaker.

Dr. Mioton has nearly 25 years of work experience. He has been working in his own private practice since 1989 and joined Saint Thomas Heart at MTMC in 2008. He received his Doctor of Medicine from Tulane University School of Medicine. He also completed his Cardiology Fellowship and Residency in Internal Medicine at Ochsner Foundation Hospital.

The purpose of the luncheon is to make women more aware that heart disease is the leading cause of death among women.

Free blood pressure screenings and American Heart Association Casting Call will begin at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served at noon.

Amy Marsalis and Dr. Mioton will be available for interviews.
