Farmers' Market: Pumpkins show up Tuesday

Moderate crowds were at Farmers' Market at Cannonsburgh on Front Street this morning under gray skies with pumpkins, larger than a football, at $2 each.

The number of vendors is slowly declining as the growing season heads toward an end, but plenty were available with tomatoes, cucumbers, all manner of squash and beans, okra, potatoes and peppers remaining plentiful.

Corn by 8 a.m. was rare with one vendor selling Avalon triple sweet corn at 50 cents an ear.

Today, the prices and items were as follows:

Triple Sweet (white corn (white corn) $5/dozen

.50/ basket – Cherry tomatoes

$1.50/ lb – Fox cherry tomatoes

$4/lb – organic miniature heirloom tomatoes

$4/ lb – Cherokee purple organic tomatoes

$2/ lb – organic tomatoes

$2/ lb – German Johnson tomatoes (very large)

$1.50/lb. - Pink Johnson

$1.50/lb. – Bradley

$1.50/lb. – Goliath

$1.50/lb. -White cherry

$1.50/lb. - White currant

$1.50/lb. - Arkansas Traveler

$1.50/lb. - Red pear/fig

$1.50-$2/lb. - Gold Rush

$5/lb. - Juliet

$1/lb – Mountain Fresh tomatoes

$2/ basket – Okra

$1/lb. - Yellow squash

$1 each – Patty-cake squash

$10/ Large basket – Green beans

$1.50/ lb – Roma beans

$3 lb. – Purple hull peas

3 for $1 - Bell peppers

3 for $1 – Cucumbers

2 for $1 – Eggplant
