On the first anniversary of Staff Sgt. Marc Golczynski’s untimely death in Iraq, Murfreesboro City Council considers naming the bridge on the Southwest Loop Road/ Veteran’s Parkway in his honor.
“It is right and fitting that the military service to his country of Staff Sgt. Golczynski shall be permanently honored and remembered in his home community,” the council resolution said.
Golczynski, a resident of Murfreesboro, was serving in the U.S. Marine Corps in Iraq when he was struck down by enemy fire March 27, 2007. Along with being a soldier, he was a son, a friend, a brother and a father.
He was also honored during the 2007 Memorial Day commemoration at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.
“Marc volunteered for a second tour of duty in Iraq. He knew the dangers his service would entail,” Pres. George W. Bush said at the commemoration.
Other council businesss: - The council considers investing 1.5 million in replacement software for the Murfreesboro Police Department.
According to the request by Chief Glenn Chrisman, the software will replace currently use out-dated programs for dispatch, records management and billing. The new software package will also include an automated citation issuance ability and computerized traffic accident drawings.
- The council also considers a bid of $12,250 to rehabilitate two ponds on Old Fort Golf course.
