Fall break starts for city, county students

Murfreesboro City and Rutherford County schools will be closed Monday, Oct. 5 through Friday, Oct. 9 for fall break.

• The Boys and Girls Club of Murfreesboro will be open, as usual, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for its members. Field trips to Frist Center for the Visual Arts and Cheekwood are planned.

• The Discovery Center at Murfree Springs is sponsoring a ‘Journey Through Space & Time,’ spring break program for students in grades 2 through 5. Hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost is $125 for members and $150 for non-members.

Participants will learn about rocks, dinosaurs, airplanes and more. Registration is in person at the Discovery Center or by phone at 615-2300. A non-refundable deposit is required.

MTSU undergraduate and graduate students and faculty will observe fall break Oct. 17-20. No classes will be held Saturday, Oct. 17, through Tuesday, Oct. 20. Fall semester classes will resume Wednesday, Oct. 21.

All MTSU offices will be open their normal operating hours, 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Oct. 19-20.

Rick Chapman, director of Student Health Services, said this office would be open from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Oct. 19-20. Students who remain on campus or live in the area can receive treatment during those hours, he added.

The James E. Walker Library will be closed Oct. 17-18 for fall break, but will be open from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Oct. 19 and from 8 a.m. until midnight Oct. 20. It will be open from 7:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16.

The James Union Building (7 a.m. until 6 p.m.) and Keathley University Center (7 a.m. until 8 p.m.) will be open Friday, Oct. 16. KUC will be open Oct. 17 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., with Phillips Bookstore hours 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. that day. The JUB will be closed Oct. 17-18. KUC will be closed Oct. 18. KUC will be open from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Oct. 19-20 and JUB will be open from 7 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Oct. 19-20. Their normal hours will resume Oct. 21.

As of Oct. 1, officials with MT Dining (ARAMARK Food Services) had not determined which of their dining establishments would be open and hours of operation during fall break.

Just what is the purpose of "Fall Break" anyway. These kids just don't have enough learning time in school as it is, and then they have Fall Break about a month or so after they get back in school after the summer vacation.

oh great another week of teenagers with time on their hands , running around being criminals and driving like idiots. Cant you keep them caged ? geez !
