Two out-of-state men were accused of possessing fake iPads during a traffic stop Wednesday, Jan. 26 on Interstate 24 in Rutherford County, a sheriff’s Interstate Crime Enforcement deputy reported.
Suspects Garnest G. Terry, 33, of Dallas, and Jerome Marque Hall, 37, of Norcross, Ga., were charged with criminal simulation after ICE Deputy Christian Wrather located 12 shrink-wrapped boxes with iPad labeling. One iPad was found.
“The rest of the boxes were filled with a photocopied picture of an iPad pasted onto a ceramic tile,” Wrather reported.
One of the suspects told Wrather the men were en route to Nashville to sell the false merchandise.
Wrather contacted Apple security about the fake merchandise. Wrather will follow up on the case.
When booked into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center, Wrather asked the men if they had any illegal drugs. Terry allegedly told Wrather he hid about one gram of marijuana in his shoe. Once retrieving the marijuana, Wrather additionally charged Terry with possession of marijuana.
Hearings for the pair were set March 30 in General Sessions Court.
