Expect traffic delays during fire instructor's funeral

TMP Reports

Drivers should expect traffic delays this afternoon on South Church Street and Northwest Broad Street when firefighters statewide show respect to retired Tennessee State Fire School instructor Lewis Baker during his funeral procession.

Baker, 81, of Murfreesboro, died Sunday. He taught pumper operations and other classes at the fire school for more than 30 years.

Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. at Murfreesboro Funeral Home on South Church Street. After the services, the funeral procession will begin at approximately 3 p.m. and travel from South Church Street to Northwest Broad Street to Roselawn Cemetery.

Murfreesboro Assistant Chief Allen Swader said the department’s Honor Guard will be posted at the casket during the service.

One fire engine will travel in the funeral procession. An aerial truck and rescue truck will be parked at South Church Street. Another fire engine with the American flag draped from it will be posted at Roselawn Cemetery.

“He meant so much to this department we are trying to help out in any way possible,” Swader said.
