The Exchange Club of Murfreesboro has announced plans for its First Annual Celebrity Waiters Dinner, according to Donna Gibson, Club President. The event is planned for Thursday, April 8, 2010, at the DoubleTree Hotel on Old Fort Parkway.
Proceeds from the dinner will benefit the Exchange Club Family Center, which is part of Exchange Clubs’ National Project for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect. A reception will begin at 6:00 PM with the dinner to follow at 7:00 PM.
Featured waiters for the event will include many local celebrities. Already committed are County Mayor Ernest Burgess, Murfreesboro Mayor Tommy Bragg, Sheriff Truman Jones, MTSU Lady Raiders Coach Rick Insell and MTSU Athletic Director Chris Massaro. The names of other “waiters” will be announced as they are confirmed.
The evening billed as “Under the Big Top” will feature a circus atmosphere with clowns, magicians, and animals furnished by County Property Assessor and Exchangite Bill Boner. Invitations are expected to be mailed in the near future.
The dinner replaces the Exchange’s Club’s walking horse show, which has been its major fundraising event for 48 years. The change was made after the Old Fort Park show ring was converted into tennis courts.
A committee composed of Carol Puryear, Ed Barlow, Rob Jacobs, Stephen Smith, and John Hood are planning the dinner, according to President Gibson.
The Exchange Club Family Center is located at 115 Heritage Park Drive in Murfreesboro. It has been serving families in Rutherford County for the past 20 years. Child Abuse Prevention and Neglect was adopted as a national project by the Exchange Clubs of America in 1979 and now serves the country through 100 centers similar to the one in Murfreesboro.
