Stanton Stevens will succeed Will Hester as the head football coach at La Vergne High School, principal Dirk Ash announced today.

Stevens previously served as head football coach at Austin-East Magnet High School from 1999-2004 and Oak Ridge High School from 2005-2008 with a combined record of 130-42.
“I am looking forward to being a part of not only helping change the football expectations but the school expectations as well,” Stevens said. “We should expect to be competitive both on the field and in the classroom. We represent the La Vergne community and hope to do it in a first class manner.”

Stevens will be the fourth head coach of the Wolverine program dating back to 1988. Former coach Hester resigned in December.

During Stevens’ stint at Austin-East Magnet High School, the Road Runners were the 2001 3A State Champions and the 2003 Region Champions. Stevens also enjoyed success at Oak Ridge. During his tenure the Wildcats were the 2005 State 5A Runner-Up and Region Champions.

“I am used to playing in competitive situations and this is without a doubt the toughest district to play in the state with so many state championship winning teams,” Stevens said. “We will put together the best staff possible to ensure we can develop a program that is first class and competitive. Our goal is to build a program that develops a tradition of great football.

“This program has great potential and I look forward to seeing that potential realized.”
Former Wolverine Chris Grimes will join Stevens staff.

Chris Grimes will join the Wolverine coaching staff in a yet to be determined role, Ash announced.

Grimes served on former head coach Will Hester's staff as defensive backs coach and special teams coordinator during the 2009 season. After a successful playing career at Tennessee Technological University, Grimes also served as a student assistant on Watson Brown's staff.

Grimes played for the Wolverines from 1999-2002 where he was a three time All-Region performer including Region 4-5A M.V.P. in 2002. Grimes rushed for more than 1,400 yards as a senior.
