Erin Edgemon: Toot’s looking to expand

By ERIN EDGEMON, Business Editor

Toot’s tasty wings could be coming to a location near you.

Owner Wade Hays confirmed that he has been looking for a location to build a third Toot’s restaurant in Middle Tennessee.

“We want to do another location in the next year or so,” he said. “We haven’t found what we are looking for yet.”

Toot’s officials have looked at sites on South Church Street near a future, unnamed big box retailer to be constructed at the intersection of the major thoroughfare and County Farm Road.

Other possible locations include Cools Springs and Hermitage.

Hays said he is looking to open a new location to grow the restaurant chain and offer new opportunities for Toot’s existing employees.

“We have a recognized concept in Middle Tennessee,” he said. “We want to continue our run of success.”

Toot’s has been one of Murfreesboro’s most popular restaurants since opening in 1985; the Smyrna location will celebrate its fifth anniversary this year.

Toot’s franchises are located in Bowling Green, Ky. and Cincinnati, Ohio.

Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches is still on its way to Murfreesboro.

The Post reported in January that the sandwich shop would be open for business at 577 N. Thompson Lane next door to the AT&T Wireless store by mid-March.

Franchisee Rocky Carlson said it would likely be the end of May or early June before the shop opens due to delays in receiving permits from the city of Murfreesboro and construction.

Jimmy John’s is a Champaign, Ill.-based restaurant franchise that was built on the concept of providing speedy and friendly service. Sandwiches are designed to be ready in as little as 30 seconds. Bread is baked in-house every four hours; meats and vegetables also are sliced in-house daily.

Carlson and co-owners, his father and mother, Art and Linda Carlson, have already started looking for a second Murfreesboro location close to MTSU.
