A long-standing Murfreesboro restaurant may have a new home before the end of the year.
Kathy Darsinos, owner of The Parthenon Restaurant, confirmed that a new restaurant will be constructed directly across the street from Parthenon’s current location at 1935 S. Church St. in the Sims Realtors, Auctioneers mixed-use development.
“Hopefully, it will be open for Christmas,” she said.
Plans for the restaurant have yet to be submitted to the Murfreesboro Planning Department for consideration.
Darsinos said the timing is right for the new restaurant.
“Getting into our restaurant now is hard,” she said, referring to high volumes of traffic on South Church Street along with the construction of a bridge on Rutherford Boulevard.
“It is just a great opportunity to build a new restaurant,” she said.
Parthenon has been at its current location for 26 years. The building is more than 50 years old.
Darsinos said the new restaurant will be much larger and feature five private dining rooms, three will hold 30 persons each or open up to accommodate as many as 120 people and two rooms will accommodate small parties for up to 15 people.
••• Owners of the LaMar’s Donuts franchises in Murfreesboro have dropped the franchise and reopened their two local stores under new names.
A representative from the store said the change was made to boost business at the underperforming stores.
In addition to doughnuts and coffee, the ‘Boro Bistro at 1875 Memorial Blvd. and Scotty’s at 2805 Old Fort Parkway now offer a soup and salad bar and gourmet sandwiches from 10: 30 a.m. to 9 p.m. The restaurant opens at 6 a.m.
Visit the ‘Boro Bistro Web site at www.boro-bistro.com to view the full menu.
••• The owner of The Shoppe for Simple Pleasures at 810 NW Broad St. in the Jackson Heights Plaza is looking for a new location for the store.
Gretchen Jackson, an interior designer at the shop, said owner Tina Woodruff is looking for a more visible and upscale location for her home interior and gift store.
Woodruff is said to be looking at other locations in Murfreesboro but also Green Hills and Franklin. The new location will likely be smaller than the current one.
“She is not in a hurry,” Jackson said. “We don’t have to be out of here any certain time.”
The Shoppe for Simple Pleasures moved to the Jackson Heights Plaza in 2001.
••• Don’t forget, the highly anticipated Olive Garden restaurant opens Monday, Feb. 25 at 4 p.m. The restaurant is located at 1710 Old Fort Parkway in front of Stones River Mall. Olive Garden will be open for lunch at 11 a.m. beginning Monday, March 3.
The 247-seat, 7,441-square-foot restaurant created 165 jobs.
