Erin Edgemon: New florist shop to serve east side of Murfreesboro

A floral shop specializing in flowers for any occasion is now open on Rutherford Boulevard near Mellow Mushroom.

Shop manager Maria Cuevas said Bears & Roses Flower Shop & Gifts offers service previously unavailable on the east side of Murfreesboro. The shop, which opened May 5, is located at 2955 S. Rutherford Blvd. across the street from Wal-Mart.

The flower shop has a walk-in cooler to store arrangements for those who need to pick up a last-minute gift, she said.

Custom flower arrangements can be prepared for such special occasions as weddings, funerals, graduations and anniversaries. Delivery is available.

Sara Flores, a florist for more than 20 years, owns the shop with her brother Max Lopez. They previously owned and operated a floral shop in Los Angeles before moving to Murfreesboro three months ago to be closer to family and to escape the heavy traffic of the big city.

Cuevas, Flores’ daughter-in-law, said Rutherford Boulevard is an ideal location for the shop.

“It is going to get popular here soon with the Wal-Mart and all of the other businesses,” she said.

An assortment of plush teddy bears and other gift items, balloons, gift-wrap and bags also are for sale at the shop.

Hours of operation are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Call Bears & Roses at 893-2360.

The Crown Store, a custom airbrush and silkscreen business, relocated to 230-C Stones River Mall behind Coconut Bay Cafe from Hickory Hollow Mall in Antioch in April.

Owner Blanchard Thomas said his independent artists can airbrush or silkscreen on virtually any surface from automobiles, motorcycles and helmets to sports jerseys, shoes and caps.

Thomas decided to relocate his business because many of his customers were already coming from the Murfreesboro area. Davidson County schools also implemented a strict dress code, which hurt his business, he said.

Hours of operations are Monday through Saturday from noon-8 p.m. and Sunday from 1-5 p.m.

Thomas said perspective clients should come in to view examples of custom work.
