Erin Edgemon: Go on a free carriage ride at The Avenue, free wrapping at the mall

Several local retailers and shopping centers are holding special events and opening their doors later this holiday season.

The Avenue Murfreesboro is providing a free treat for customers with carriage rides every Sunday from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. through Dec. 21.

Riders should meet the carriage at Central Park.

“We’re pleased to provide a unique amenity like the carriage rides for the entire family,” said Angie Carter, general manager of The Avenue.

Children also can get their picture made with Santa and Mrs. Claus in Belk at The Avenue Monday-Saturday from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m.-6 p.m.

Santa also is available for pictures and to hear children’s gift wish lists through Dec. 24 at Stones River Mall during most of the mall’s regular hours. The family pet also can have its picture taken with Santa Dec. 15 from 6 p.m.-9 p.m.

Free gift-wrapping provided by World Outreach Church is available at the mall between Aeropostale and Victoria’s Secret through Dec. 24.

Santa will talk to children and be available for photographs Friday, Dec. 19 from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 20 from noon-4 p.m. Shacklett’s Photography will be on hand to take photographs.

Golf, Etc. is back open for business.

A minor fire in the store Oct. 4 caused extensive water damage and closed the store for more than two months, said franchise owner Martin Porter. The store had to be completely gutted and rebuilt.

Located at 2934 S. Church St., Golf, Etc. specializes in everything golf from equipment, apparel and shoes to club repair and custom-order clubs.

Nashville-based Otter’s Chicken Tenders has pushed back the estimated opening date of its first Murfreesboro restaurant to February.

The restaurant known for its freshly cooked chicken tenders and fast-casual dining was originally expected to open in December. Otter’s will be located in The Shoppes at Gateway Corner near Thompson Lane.

Otter’s of Murfreesboro, which will be designed by The Innovations Group of Franklin, will consist of 2,652 square feet of space and boast optional outdoor seating, a bar area with multiple plasma televisions and a private room available for groups.

Otter’s Chicken Tenders serves fried, grilled and buffalo chicken and several appetizers, including homemade favorites like fried pickles and fried mushrooms. The Murfreesboro franchise will include several beer selections on tap, as well as domestic and imported beers available by the bottle or by the bucket. The average customer’s check at Otter’s totals about $8.
