The new Books-A-Million location is set to open Thursday, Oct. 2 at Stones River Mall.

The 20,000-square-foot store — about 2,000 square feet larger than the current store — is adjacent to the mall food court.

Diane Johnson, BAM general manager, said the current bookstore will close at 11 p.m. Sept. 27 to prepare for the move across Old Fort Parkway. The new store will then reopen at 9 a.m. Oct. 2.

“We are all excited as a staff to have a new store coming,” she said, even though staff has to pack up the books for the move.

A ribbon cutting with the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce at the new store is slated for Oct. 3 at 10 a.m.

Regrand opening events will take place at the new store Oct. 3-4, featuring plenty of activities for children including story times, visits from storybook characters and other entertainment.

Free coffee samples from Joe Muggs Coffee will likely be provided.

Johnson said the new store will be “totally different” from the store located near Target on Old Fort Parkway. It will feature dark wood and metal shelves, two customer service areas and a larger café area.

Artwork will be featured on the walls.

Johnson said she isn’t sure the reason for the store’s relocation, but she suspects it is due to additional competition that recently entered the market (Barnes & Noble at The Avenue) and the redeveloped Stones River Mall.

The Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce’s annual 40-day membership drive kicked off last week.

It is a great time for area businesses to sign up and start to benefit from all of the services and networking opportunities available from the Chamber of Commerce.

The membership drive continues through Oct. 30.

As Kelli Beam, Chamber membership director, put it joining the Chamber is a great way to give back to the community where you live and work.

The Chamber of Commerce promotes Rutherford County tourism, recruits new business and supports existing business through training and educational programs and much more.

And everyone loves the monthly Business After Hours networking event held at various locations across Rutherford County.

To find out more about what the Chamber has to offer, attend a Chamber 101 session being held every Friday at 8:30 a.m. or 1 p.m. until the end of the year. Call ahead to schedule because sessions may be canceled due to holidays and other special events.

Sessions are held at the Chamber of Commerce building at 501 Memorial Blvd.

Signing up during the membership blitz also benefits Chamber volunteers who receive prizes for signing up new members.

Anyone interested in joining the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce should call 893-6565.
