Olympus Athletic Club & Spa’s second location is finally preparing to open.

Gym general manager Grant Gofourth said the new gym will be open sometime around July 1.

“We are setting up the equipment right now,” he said early last week.

The new 17,000-square-foot gym located at 2892 S. Church St. near Kroger was originally expected to open last summer to alleviate some of the heavy traffic in the gym, which has a membership base of more than 6,500.

The Olympus Athletic Club will be equipped with top-of-the-line Life Fitness and Hammer Strength elliptical, cross-training and strength-training machines and thousands of pounds of free weights.

Gofourth said the new gym has a large parking lot to accommodate members.

Gym members can access both the South Church and Northwest Board street locations for the $14.99 monthly fee. Both gyms will be open 24 hours a day.

For more information on the gym, visit www.gymolympus.com or call 895-0604.

A Yogurt Oasis is on its way to Murfreesboro.

Owners Dale Malleck and Kelly Barnett hope to have the frozen yogurt shop open by Aug. 1 pending build out of the retail space and final approval by the city of Murfreesboro.

Yogurt Oasis will be located at 2876 S. Rutherford Blvd. in the Wal-Mart shopping center next door to Radio Shack.

The independently owned and operated store offers more than 15 yogurt flavors and more than 20 toppings.

“It is unique because you can build your own (cup),” Malleck said the shop’s concept. “You can get as many flavors and as many toppings as you want.”

Customers are charged based on the weight of their cup of frozen yogurt.

The biggest selling point for Yogurt Oasis will likely be what it is lacking.

The yogurt has only eight calories per ounce and no fat or cholesterol.

“It is considered to be America’s most healthy desert,” Malleck said.

But he said the yogurt isn’t lacking in flavor.

“You can’t tell the difference between our product and soft-serve ice cream,” Malleck said.

Yogurt Oasis lets customers sample flavors for free.

Currently, Malleck and Barnett own and operate one Yogurt Oasis near Vanderbilt University in Nashville. That store, which has been open for about 10 weeks, is already popular with college students.

Malleck and Barnett wanted the new store to be located near a university as well, which is why they selected a storefront near the MTSU campus and near the heavily trafficked Wal-Mart Supercenter.

Hours of operation will be Monday through Saturday from noon to 10 p.m. and Sunday noon to 6 p.m.
