The second Murfreesboro location of Bink’s Outfitters, an outdoor equipment and clothing store, is expected to open in the Stones River Mall’s new lifestyle center within the next couple weeks, said its owner.

Brandon Binkley, owner of Bink’s Outfitters, also on the Murfreesboro Public Square and Franklin, is attempting to get the new 6,100-square-foot store open ahead of schedule. He originally planned to open the freestanding store in August just prior to Stones River Mall’s re-grand opening scheduled for September.

“Murfreesboro is a big city, and I think that it is going to make it a little more convenient in Murfreesboro to have two locations,” he said in a previous interview.

“Our business is continuing to grow in Murfreesboro,” Binkley said. “People like to buy from locally owned stores instead of from a big box.”

Interior construction has begun on teen clothing store Forever 21 in the lifestyle center called The Shops at Stones River, confirmed Heather Rose, the mall’s marketing manager. C.J. Banks, a plus-sized women’s clothing store, and Books-A-Million are planning to open this fall.

She said the Gap also would likely postpone the relocation and opening of its existing Stones River Mall store until September.

Those who have yet to visit Stones River Mall’s new outdoor plaza and retail area are in for a treat, Rose said.

The design of the lifestyle center is consistent with the design of the overall mall renovation, she said.

“We wanted to celebrate two fundamental characteristics of Murfreesboro; its natural beauty and its role as a forward-thinking community, centered on higher education,” Rose said. “The natural beauty as we see it is comprised of rolling hills, tree-lined streams, hardwood forests, and fertile fields surrounding a vibrant historical downtown area. Contrasting those pastoral images is the higher energy of the academic mission of MTSU and the increasingly dominant medical industry arising in Murfreesboro.”

The lifestyle center was designed to provide a comfortable, intimate setting where shoppers can stroll, shop and eat.

Such amenities that help create this comfortable setting include the sounds of bubbling water from a fountain, a copper clad covering leading from the parking area to protect customers from outdoor elements, buildings outlined in festive lighting, colorful awnings, progressively designed street lamps and shade-providing trees, Rose said.

During the spring and summer, flowerpots and banners will hang from the street poles. In the winter, the evergreen street trees will be festooned with lights and during the holiday season, the holiday tree will be located over the fountain as the centerpiece.
