Ellen Stokes, 84, of La Vergne, Tenn., died Sunday, July 7, 2013.
Mrs. Stokes was a member of Woodbine Baptist Church and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She was a native of Pickens County, S.C., and was preceded in death by her husband, Theron Stokes, and parents, Oscar and Leora Bell Alexander.

She is survived by her children, Linda Harwell and husband, Jim, of Smyrna, Julie Davis and husband, Shannon, of Alabama, and Tom Yeargin and wife, Tina, of Georgia; grandchildren, Melissa, Stephanie Harwell, Zachary Cox, Lindsay Dixon, Erin and Sam Yeargin; great-grandchildren, Christopher and Nadia Dixon; sisters, Martha McAbee, Sue Cox, both of South Carolina; brother, and David Alexander, of South Carolina.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Stokes to Woodbine Baptist Church, located at 29 Whitsett Road, Nashville, Tenn., 37210.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, at Woodfin Chapel in Smyrna.

A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, at Woodfin Chapel in Smyrna with Ben McGinnis officiating. Burial will be held at 1 p.m. that afternoon at Middle Tennessee Veteran Cemetery in Pegram, Tenn.
