The chairman of Rutherford County’s Election Commission has resigned his position.

Tom Walker, who has served as the chairman of the election commission since late 2008, resigned his post Monday.

It is rumored that Rutherford County Republican Party Chairman Jimmy Evans will be named to replace Walker.

At its next scheduled meeting, the election commission begin discussions on filling the empty elections administrators post.

Earlier this year, former Election Administrator Hooper Penuel was suspended and terminated after a mistake was made during the early voting period of the August County General and National Primary Election.

Penuel had been at odds with the Republican-dominated election commission since it called for applications and asked him to re-apply for the job in 2009, which resulted in a lawsuit.

Penuel settled the suit and it cost the county $32,000 in legal fees and settlement costs.

Mr. Penuel looks better and better in the reality mirror of life....

And what exactly has Hooper Penuel done for the election process in Ritherford County other than fould it up and cost the taxpayer an additional $32,000 because he was unhappy with the consequence?

"Reality mirror" indeed.
