A Smyrna man could face up to one year in jail and $15,000 in fines for allegedly driving under the influence for the fourth time – less than three months after being convicted of a third offense.

Christopher M. Anders, 36, was arrested Oct. 8 near the ramp of Interstate 24 on South Church Street. He has since been charged with a DUI 4th offense, which is a Class E felony, as well as driving on a revoked license and violation of the implied consent law.

Anders was convicted of a DUI 3rd offense July 12 in Kentucky, according to the arrest report filed by Officer Christopher Wilkerson of the Murfreesboro Police Department.

Last weekend, a driver with a local taxi service tipped of an off-duty officer, who then notified Wilkerson, that Anders had received a ride from a local bar to his truck, according to the report.

“As I pulled around the building, I saw the dark pickup leaving the parking lot,” Wilkerson reported. “As I made contact with the driver, I noticed he had a strong order of an intoxicant about his person… he had a difficult time answering questions and seemed confused.”

Anders allegedly told Wilkerson “he had a few drinks but not enough to be talking about.” However, Anders was unable to complete several field sobriety tests, so he was placed under arrest, according to the report.

He was then transported to the Rutherford County Detention Center and held on a $5,500 bond. He is scheduled to appear Dec. 13 in General Sessions Court.
