A Murfreesboro man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence on Christmas Eve after he was allegedly caught sleeping in a car that was parked in the middle of the road.
Carl R. Turner, 27, has been charged with a DUI 2nd offense, according to a Murfreesboro Police Department arrest report filed by Officer Chris Wilkerson.
“I responded to the Sulphur Springs Road (and) Haynes Drive area in reference to a non-responsive driver who was parked in the middle of the road,” Wilkerson reported. “I made contact with the driver, who had been woken up by other MPD officers… (He) stated he had ‘had enough’ in reference to the amount of alcohol he had consumed.”
Wilkerson reported that Turner refused to complete field sobriety tests, at which point he was then taken into custody and transported to the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center, where he was held on a $2,000 bond.
However, Turner did agree to a blood alcohol test during booking.
This is the second time Turner has been charged in connection with an alcohol-related offense. According to the report, Turner was convicted in August 2008 for driving under the influence in Cannon County.
Turner is scheduled to appear Feb. 14 in General Sessions Court. |

Glad he stopped and slept. I get tired of reading in the paper about others poor decisions with dui's. Clearly folks are self medicating wounds...putting it in the paper does no good.

Yea stopped in the middle of the road, don't know if you caught that part. Let one of these people kill someone you love, then we will see if you think they are just "self medicating". This is not a topic you should joke or try to get a rise out of someone about. If he was drunk enough to fall asleep in the middle of the road, it's lucky he didn't hurt or kill anyone.

WOW! Such hostility. It sounds like you need to get laid! LOL.
At least he stopped and didni't continue driving to kill someone is all I was saying...clearly he made a good choice there. Yes, this could have resulted much worse especially had it not been in a more residential area and on a main highway...glad he didn't get that far and stopped.
And yes, I might have a different view if someone I loved had been killed by a drunk driver. Question is....can you say that or you just being hostile for the sake of being ugly. And if that was the case with me, I hope I would have enough grace and understanding for those that struggle with dependency issues to forgive one day.
I am not joking or trying to get a rise out of someone...no one else had commented for me to play with...are you actually projecting and tranfering your anger towards me in regards to other articles. Sincerly sorry to provoke you so...it is not my intend for my opinions to stew you so...maybe it's because you might think you know who I am....my gender...and have outwitted you. LOL Oh, it's going to be a good yr!
Only glad his angels were watching over him that he didn't hurt or kill anyone.
BTW, I have a dear friend who has been in a couple car crashes as a youth drinking, he is now 50 and a wonderful man. People change, can you?
By:
protector on 1/1/12
Oh, that would take realizing a change is needed.....probably NOT! Perfect people never think that and their judgement of others speaks volumes to where they are in their own faith.

BTW, late Thurs. night I witnessed officers pulling over a college girl DRIVING the wrong direction AROUND THE SQUARE! Talk about dangerous!

I like the fact that we're made aware of drunk drivers. These people should be called out for their actions. Driving isn't a constitutional right. It's a privilege.

protector. Just so you have another point of view. If someone is drunk and falls asleep at a stop sign or light, the person did not decide to stop and sleep. Come on now, he is lucky that he was stiff and fell asleep with the brake held down. He was so f'd up that he fell asleep waiting for his turn to go. SAD.

@ postlooker22...really? How did he park his car? Have you ever been that intoxicated before? I doubt not.
BTW, my grandmother died in a car crash, though not by a intoxicated driver, but someone who was mentally unstable on med's and carelessly didn't turn on their head lights...which all came out in court. That was yrs ago. My grandfather continued to live independently dispite a broken neck from the crash. Do I resent this woman today? No, when it is God's timing..it is God's timing...dispite the situation.
@ JRB2429 and postlooker...so glad someone finally got laid in M'boro and can post a little more relaxed! LOL

Grant you, a dangerous situation and glad it didn't result worse. But the thing that touched MY heart in the first sentence was the fact is was Christmas Eve a season of much sorrow for those who don't have as much as others in a time of much happiness and love from family and friends.

My intent is not to defend what he did..and as he woke on Christmas morning in jail...yes he paid for his poor decisions...I'm just sorry for him, his loved one (should there be any) that it was made public for all of Murfreesboro to see and hope things go better for him in the new year.

Regardless no one should drive under the influence of any thing my son god bless him was killed by a drunk driver in 2008 he was a senior in high school the person was high on meth and moonshine and beer .16 and his age 16 no license no insurance my so still had so much to live for . That night I lost him killed me and then not only did I lose him but my 21 year old too.although he didn't die , the death of his brother has consumed him he has tried to kill his self numerous times so thanks to a drunk driver my family is gone forever I mean an impaired driver I

I have not gotten that drunk, and drove. But I do think it is quite possible for him to have the brake held down while sleeping. Your body would be really stiff and would hold down the brake. I am not defending either, just wanting to inform the chances he fell asleep with his foot on the brake is quite possible and probably what happened.

@ postlooker22 who knows? The article stated it was a "parked" car.
@eqizzl...I want to thank you for your courage in sharing your story. I can't imagaine the pain you've experienced and continue to as a parent not being able to ease the pain of your other son. I am so very sorry. As I don't know you, I can only assume you are parent of great faith in that your stated opinion reflects much grace. However, I would like to extend an invitation to you to World Outreach Church. It has a wonderful grief support group for those who have lost loved ones. I have found that in times of great stress when it seems God has abandon, there is strenght given when surrounded with others in similiar pain. I believe there are spiritual forces in play in lives and Satan comes to steal, kill, and destroy in any manner possible to leave us hopeless, in despair, and angry. You do not sound angry so I know you are a person of great faith and know that God, in His mighty power and Spirit, can continue to restore and bring healing to the daily struggles of life. I hope you continue to shine His light with the story of your life.
To Carl Turner, should he read this:
1. Admit you are powerless, your life has become unmanageable.
2. God, who is greater, can restore you.
3. Make a decision to turn your will/lives over to the care of God.
4. Make a fearless, searching inventory of yourself.
5.Admit to God, yourself, and to another the exact nature of your past wrongs.
6. Be ready for God to remove these character defects.
7. Ask God to remove these shortcomings.
8. Make a list of all harmed and make amends.
9. Make direct amends where possible.
10. Continue to take personal inventory, when wrong, promptly admit it.
11. Seek God through prayer and His will for your life.
12. Having a spiritual awakening, carry this message to others.
WOC has a group for you too that mets every Thurs. night at 7:00 in the small white house in front of the church were many meet as well to gain strenght and healing and support for a more managable life governed by God.

Wonderful...you have a great ministry and I hope God continues to use a tragetic event for His glory throughout the remainder of your life as it is a story that would touch many people who need His hope in the same situation. I hope your son one day realizes that as well...it sounds as if he is young and with maturity and time, processing these devastating emotions.....he to has a great message of hope to others in a time of need. I do not know you, but God does so I will pray that in the new year all good thing come to you and yours in all avenues of you life. Thanks again for ur courage to share your life.

@equizzl...one final thought. While you sleep by your sons grave, it is my prayer that His warmth covers you from head to toe. That the peace that surpasses all understanding lifts your heart, mind, and soul. You are in my prayers.
