A Murfreesboro man is facing multiple charges after attempting to flee two police officers Oct. 20 when they tried to stop him for allegedly driving erratically on Northfield Boulevard.
Travis L. Hausladen, 23, has been charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, and felony evading arrest in a motor vehicle, according to a Murfreesboro Police Department arrest report.
Detective Edward Gorham alerted Officer Christopher Wilkerson to a possible drunk driver and requested backup, according to the report.
“The vehicle entered the left lane of travel almost hitting Gorham,” Wilkerson reported. Hausladen then allegedly turned off Northfield into a neighborhood, “where he was then in the wrong lane of travel” and failed to yeild to traffic.
When Wilkerson caught up to Gorham, who was following Hausladen, he also attempted to pull him over.
“The vehicle in question failed to stop … after several commands to pull over,” he reported. “Gorham also had his lights and emergency equipment on … He attempted to pull up beside the vehicle … as he pulled alongside the pickup truck, the driver deliberately swerved to strike Gorham’s vehicle.”
Eventually, Hausladen pulled over on N.W. Broad Street near Highway 840.
As the officers order Hausladen to exit the vehicle, he yelled “f*** you,” before being taken into custody at 3:41 a.m.
While being booked into the Rutherford County Detention Center at 4:53 a.m., Wilkerson reported that Hausladen wanted to know why he was being charged with evading arrest.
“(Hausladen) explained that he could not see (Gorham’s) or my patrol car,” he reported, adding he was charged with evading arrested because he failed to stop immediately, when given the chance to do so.
Hausladen was held on a $21,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear Dec. 13 in General Sessions Court.
