Drug take back and gun buy back event this weekend

Murfreesboro Police and other partners are asking the general public to “surrender” prescription drugs at a “Drug Take Back” disposal site.

The Murfreesboro Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Community Anti-Drug Coalition of Rutherford County (CADCOR), and St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital are working together to make another successful prescription “Drug Take Back” day.

The Murfreesboro Police Department is also sponsoring another “Gun Buy Back” program. This program targets unwanted firearms, working or non-working in the household. It keeps firearms out of children’s, drug dealer’s, and gang member’s hands. This is an anonymous program and no names will be required! We will be giving a gift card from Kroger that can be used to purchase either food or gas.

Both events will be held next Saturday, April 26, 2013 from 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon in the parking lot of St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in front of the DePaul Medical Office Building located at 1800 Medical Center Parkway in Murfreesboro.

Citizens are encouraged to come to the drive-up location and remain in their vehicles to drop off their medications. We are requesting that all expired or unused drugs be left in their original labeled prescription bottles or packages so they may be properly identified. No drugs will be accepted in an unlabeled container. No personal identifying information will be recorded or kept. All containers will be destroyed along with the drugs. Please do NOT bring any liquids or syringes!

Any non-prescription drugs will also be accepted provided they are in their original containers.

If you have need of any further information, please contact me at the above daytime number.
