Murfreesboro Little Theatre, in partnership with Out Front Productions, presents the powerful stage event “The Laramie Project,” directed by George W. Manus Jr.
Considered by critics as “nothing short of stunning,” the performance focuses on the residents of Laramie, Wyo., and their reaction to the 1998 kidnapping, beating and death of a 21-year-old student by two other youths, all three Laramie residents.
The victim, Matthew Shepard, was targeted for no other reason than because he was gay, leading to one of the most publicized hate crimes of the century.
The work of Moises Kaufman and Tectonic Theatre is a compilation of 200 interviews with the people of Laramie over the course of 18 months, and explores the depths to which humanity can sink, and the heights of compassion that we are capable.
The ensemble cast features Sherry Sunday, Shane Lowery, Sean Dixon, Bryan Booth, Jessica Sparks, Raemona Little Taylor, Sally Hall, Lauren Street, Josh Ginsburg and Wayman Price.
