Donate blood in honor of MLK holiday

The American Red Cross is inviting residents to donate blood in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day this month.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is celebrated every year on the third Monday in January to honor the life and legacy of a man who brought hope and healing to America during the Civil Rights Movement through courage, truth, justice, compassion, dignity, humility and service.

 The blood drive will begin Jan. 16 and continue throughout the month. Residents may give blood on one of the following dates:

• Jan. 24, from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. at Middle Tennessee Medical Center, located at 1700 Medical Parkway in Murfreesboro

• Jan. 24, from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. at Motlow State Community College Smyrna, located at 5002 Motlow State Blvd. in Smyrna

• Jan. 25, from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. at MTSU in the Keathley University Center, located at 130 E. Main St. in Murfreesboro

In addition, the Murfreesboro Donor Center located at 501 Memorial Blvd. is open throughout the week to accept blood from donors.
