The second night of the District 7AAA Tournament in La Vergne is history.

The Riverdale girls had another great first half leading Siegel (18-9) by a 42-15 count and won 66-32. The Lady Warriors did this by holding Shanice Cason to 1 first half point and by playing great overall defense and shooting a great percentage.

Riverdale (22-2) got 7 points from the bench and played nine people in the first half. Siegel simply never got anything going.

Riverdale likes the La Vergne gym as they again scored 66 points in a win there. Cason led Siegel with 7 points as no Star cracked double figures: all in all, a tough night.

Siegel falls into the consolation game vs La Vergne at 6 on Monday night.

In victory Riverdale was led by Jaclissa Haislip with 23 and Shacobia Barbee with 18. RHS
takes on Blackman Monday at 7:30 for the girl’s championship.

All four squads will play in the region next Friday night we just don’t know where yet but we do know that Riverdale and Blackman will host and Siegel and LaVergne will travel.

In game two Saturday night, the Oakland boys squeaked out a 51-47 win over an inspired
Smyrna club. The Dogs did their best, holding Oakland star Jamal Hughes to “only “19 points,5 under his average, but Christian Adams (13 points) and others made up the
difference.

At one point, Hughes scored 7 points in one minute of play in the 4th quarter
but the Pats were still holding on at the end. Smyrna was led by Parrish Gaines with 13 and Josh Woodard with 15.

With the loss, Smyrna (12-18) drops to the consolation game at 6 on Tuesday vs Riverdale.

Oakland (25-5) advanced to the Championship game vs Siegel on Tuesday at 7:30.

All 4 teams will be in the region later next week. Oakland and Siegel will
host and Riverdale and Smyrna will travel.

In game 3 the Blackman girls (20-5) beat host La Vergne 58-47.

You can decide whether it was an upset or not, but Blackman has two close losses to La Vergne (24-3) this season.

The Lady Blaze led by an unexpected margin of 16 at the half. La Vergne made a number of runs but never caught up. Jasmine Dale again led the Wolverines with 17 points while LaQuinta Jefferson had 13 and Stephanie Myers had 8. For Blackman, Shelby Campbell had 13, Kortnay Cox 10 and Katie Smith 8.

In game four, the Riverdale boys (16-16) almost pulled off their second upset in two nights but lost to Siegel 50-48.

The Stars (19 – 7) got a small lead early and held off the determined well prepared Warrior squad to get the 2 point victory. Siegel slowed the tempo late and the move paid off for the Stars.

For Riverdale, Travaris Clarke had another great night with 18 points, Vari Craig had 11 and T.J.Chesterfield finished with 8.

Oscar Butler had 13 for Siegel and Marc Gooch joined him in double figures with 12. The good news for the Stars, and bad news for everyone else, isSiegel’s Kerry Hammonds returned from injury to nearly full time action with 13 points.
