The Discovery Center at Murfree Spring opened two new exhibits Tuesday for its tiniest patrons.

“Tiny Town and TotSpace are exhibits for the youngest children …” said Billie Little, Discovery Center director. “It (the exhibits) means more opportunities for visitors.”

Tiny Town and TotSpace are two sensory-rich and engaging play areas allowing children opportunities for role playing, problem solving, music and movement.

Tiny Town, the new play space for children ages 2-5, and Totspace, an area for infants and toddlers, provide a new experience for frequent visitors and a space for smaller children to play, Little said.

Local artist Norris Hall provided his unique artwork to the exhibits with mural designs.

“His work is always fascinating and creative,” former exhibit curator Roda Ferraro said.

At a cost of around $150,000, the expansion was funded in part by the Institute of Museums and Library Services and partnerships with local businesses, like Children’s Dentistry of Murfreesboro, Kroger and Home Depot. Other support was provided by the Center for Creative Play, Junior League of Murfreesboro, the MetLife Foundation and the Predators Foundation.

Discovery Center at Murfree Spring is a nonprofit organization providing a hands-on museum and environmental center for Middle Tennessee and the surrounding area.

Open Monday-Saturday from 10:00am-5:00pm and Sunday from 1:00-5:00pm, the museum serves the public through exhibits and programs in the arts and sciences. For more information about Discovery Center, visit www.discoverycenteornline.org.
