Two new sets of “Yes I Can” diabetes self-management workshops are slated for the Middle Tennessee area. On each Tuesday, beginning Oct. 16, through Nov. 27, classes will be held at the Primary Care and Hope Clinic in Murfreesboro from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. The workshop will not be held the week of Thanksgiving, however.
From 5:30 p.m. till 8 p.m. on Thursdays, beginning Oct. 25, through Dec. 6, class will be offered at the Kingdom Ministries Workshop Center, located at 625 E. Jefferson Pike in Murfreesboro. “Yes I Can” is a free six-session workshop series to help diabetics and people with pre-diabetes symptoms in Rutherford County and the surrounding areas manage their disease.
Focal points include healthy eating, exercise, medications, preventing complications, medications, communication skills and more. Caregivers and a support person are also encouraged to attend with workshop participants. The Center for Health and Human Services at Middle Tennessee State University is supervising the workshops, which are funded through a grant from the Tennessee Department of Health. The sessions are limited to 20 people each.
Participants must be at least 18 years old. A doctor’s referral is not required to attend, though pre-registration is required for both participants and caregivers or support persons. For more information or to register, contact Cindy Chafin at cynthia.chafin@mtsu.edu. |
