Destination Rutherford 2015, a Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce program to attract more high-paying jobs and help grow existing businesses in Rutherford County, has reached 90 percent of its $4 million fundraising goal designed to strengthen the county’s economic base. Since its inception in 2002, Destination Rutherford has been the county leader in economic development, and the current campaign continues to focus on increased tourism and new business attraction, retention and expansion, while assessing the county’s current and future workforce needs. The five-year economic development strategy calls for the creation of 5,000 jobs, more than half of which would pay at or above the Rutherford County average. In addition to wages, the new jobs could generate $274 million annually throughout the county in consumer expenditures. “In recent years, attracting companies that provide quality jobs has become very sophisticated and highly competitive,” said Bill Jones, area executive for Pinnacle Financial Partners and chairman of the Destination Rutherford 2015 Campaign. “In order for Rutherford County to sustain its growth and leadership position in a global environment, we need a targeted business strategy that enables us to assist our existing businesses, while aggressively pursuing new business relocations and tourism events and activities for our community.” Additional business goals of the economic development plan include aiding in the location of 50 new companies, assisting 200 existing businesses in expansion, training and support, and encouraging an increase in capital investment of $600 million. The campaign will continue through August. “Given the response we have seen to date, we have great expectations,” said Jones. “We are confident that area businesses will provide continued support for our 2015 plan by making a financial investment.” For more information, please access the Economic Development section of www.rutherfordchamber.org. |
