Despite rain, new location fireworks show a success

Saturday’s inch of rain in Murfreesboro ruined more than a few Fourth of July plans.

And some were disappointed with Murfreesboro’s decision to move the Celebration Under the Stars up in time, but overall the event was a success, said Jeni Brinkman, Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation spokeswoman.

“With any special event, it is always a gamble (and fingers crossing) when it comes to the weather.” Brinkman said. “Overall, the event was a success and we look forward to next year.”

The rain caused the fireworks extravaganza to be moved up by 30 minutes and the symphony performance was canceled, but all and all the was a successful event, she said.

“Despite Mother Nature's untimely appearance later in the evening, families had beautiful weather for the outdoor pool party during the day and the games and inflatables in the early evening,” Brinkman added.

She said many attendees commented on McKnight Park as a good location and Parks and Rec is already planning on continuing the event there in the future.

“McKnight Park as the new site for Celebration Under the Stars surpassed our expectations,” she said.

Celebration Under the Stars moved to McKnight Park this year from MTSU’s intramural fields after state funding was approved for the construction of two new buildings on the site.

Yeah we were disappointed...I kept looking on their website because of the clouds and didnt find anything that stated they were changing the time....so we got to see probably the last 20 seconds of it as we were driving toward it.....maybe next year.

I guess if you live on that side of town it is ok. But for us downtowners, we are out. I might as well just drive to Nashville and see a real show. It is about as convienient.

Teqrose I agree. My nine year old sure was disappointed when we didn't make it. Saw the last minute or so. I don't know why they didn't update their audience somehow.

I live on the south side of M'boro. Even so, the new location was great!!! A big improvement over MTSU. Also kudos to the folks in charge for rolling with the storms. The window between rains wasn't very big and you hit it. Good job!

I live behind MTSU and am so glad it was moved away from here. While I could see and hear everything from my own back yard I also had to contend with keeping my dogs safe. This year I just left them inside with the TV on and enjoyed a nice peaceful night. THANKS!
