Police responding to a burglary where a mother and her two children were asleep instead found a home “hazardous to the children’s health and well-being,” a Murfreesboro Police officer reported Tuesday.

The mother told police she believed an ex-friend broke into her Cardinal Street home because she turned over to police his illegal drugs kept in her home, Officer Angela Alexander reported. The burglary occurred while she and her children, ages 9 and 7, slept.

While responding at the home, Alexander saw the conditions of the home.

“The conditions of the home were hazardous to the children’s health and well-being,” Alexander reported.

Property stolen from the home included a purse, wallet, Ascend bank card, driver’s license, Wal-Mart gift card and a Social Security card.

In an unrelated burglary, Officer Mona Thomas-Wassel reported victim Samuel Ryan Senemounnarath of Patriot Drive watched a man break into his home about 2 p.m. Monday. Senemounnarath asked the burglar if he was looking for his brother, Eric.

The man, who identified himself as Chris, said he was looking for Eric and asked if he could wait in the living room, the officer reported. While Chris was not aggressive or threatening, Senemounnarath told the officer he kept his cell phone in his hand. After Chris left, Senemounnarath called his brother and mother.

The family didn’t know the man. They guessed he might have entered the wrong apartment.

No items were missing.

How is the second incident considered a burglary? I thought a burglary was breaking into a residence with the intent to steal something or commit a crime. Sounds like "Chris" was just confused is nothing else...

Thank God for Officers like Officer Alexander. To many people in this world turn a blind eye to cruelty and/or neglect. Apparenlty, this Officer went the extra step to look out for the children's best intrests.
