Dayton H. “Pop” Johns, Jr., age 91 of Murfreesboro, TN, passed away Wednesday July, 2, 2014. Mr. Johns was born December 1, 1922 in the Walter Hill community, to the late Dayton H. and Eula Carnahan Johns, Sr. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Sara Helen Hall.
Mr. Johns is survived by his wife of 71 years, Retha Jennings Johns; sons James Dayton Johns and his wife Elsa of Miami, FL, Larry Wayne Johns and his wife Billie Faye of Rockvale, TN, George Thomas “Tommy” Johns and his wife Janice of Smyrna, TN, and Randal Irvin “Randy” Johns and his wife Catherine Marie “Cathy” Gipson of Murfreesboro, TN; seven grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Saturday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel with Brother Nickey Nichols and Brother Mike Gann officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers. Mr. Johns was a 1941 graduate of Walter Hill High School, a member of Bethlehem Church of Christ, and a retired farmer.
