CUD earns state approval

The Consolidated Utility District of Rutherford County (CUDRC) has earned placement in the “Approved” category of public water systems in Tennessee, according to the Division of Water Supply under the State Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC).

The “Approved” designation came after CUDRC underwent 4 days of on-site inspections and file reviews in November, 2009 by the state TDEC officials with the utility earning a score of 99%. The review found that CUDRC’s number of meters/connections has now increased to 49,743 serving a population of approximately 131,819 people.

“We are honored and pleased to earn this approved status from our state regulators,” said Larry McElroy, General Manager of CUDRC.

“This is a tribute to all the hard work of our board, our management team and our entire staff,” McElroy said. “We look forward to continuing to work closely with TDEC officials to maintain and improve the quality of service we provide our customers in Rutherford County.”

The Consolidated Utility District of Rutherford County has almost 50,000 customers and operates a system of over 1,250 miles of water and sewer lines. The utility is governed by a five-member board appointed by the Mayor of Rutherford County.

Since it was formed in 1968, the goal of CUDRC has been to provide safe drinking water to all households and businesses within its service area which includes rural areas of Rutherford County and some customers and businesses in Murfreesboro and Smyrna.
