Detectives have launched an investigation into allegations a man raped a woman early Monday after the two were out with mutual friends celebrating the Labor Day holiday at a Murfreesboro bar.
The incident occurred just after 2:30 a.m. at a residence in the 2800 block of Waywood Drive, located in the Evergreen Farms subdivision off Saint Andrews Drive, according to a Murfreesboro Police Department incident report.
The 42-year-old woman, described as being hysterical and visibly shaken, told officers their group was supposed to return to her house after leaving a nearby bar. However, the suspect was the only person who went there.
A short time later, the woman fell asleep but was unsure of whether it was due to being drugged. The next thing the woman said she could remember was waking up just before 5 a.m. to discover that she had been raped.
During the initial investigation, police were able to locate the suspect and take him into custody for questioning, while the woman was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Authorities did not arrest or charge the suspect after being questioned about the incident, pending further investigation.
Vandals target home improvement business
Employees discovered Monday morning that four company vans parked outside of Jonathan’s Flooring Inc. had been vandalized while the business was closed for the weekend.
Company officials told officers they believe the incident, which occurred in the 2200 block of Southgate Boulevard, occurred some time between Friday night and early Monday, according to a Murfreesboro Police Department incident report.
Based on the evidence collected at the scene, officers believe the unknown number of suspects used large rocks to break through numerous windows. Three of the vans had also been ransacked, though nothing was reportedly stolen.
In total, almost $2,000 worth of property was damaged during the incident.
Police were unable to locate any witnesses in the area, and the employees said they had no idea who would have targeted the locally owned business.
