Police are looking for a burglary suspect who allegedly stole more than $5,400 worth of property Jan. 19 from a South Church Street storage unit.

A security camera recorded the suspect using what appeared to be an electric saw to cut the exterior lock attached to the storage unit, according to a Murfreesboro Police Department incident report filed by Officer Bryant Smith.

The suspect is described as a white male, who is about 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs an estimated 250 pounds. At the time of the incident, he was driving a red, older-model truck.

Among the items stolen included a washer and dryer, miniature motorcycle, two motorcycle helmets, a 55-inch Sony television, refrigerator and several tools.

Anyone with information about this incident should call CrimeStoppers at 615-893-7867.

Cason Trail home vandalized
A 24-year-old Murfreesboro man reported Saturday morning that when he arrived home from work just before dawn, he discovered his Cason Trail home had been vandalized.

An unknown number of suspects spread ketchup all over the front door and garage of the man’s home. Several eggs had also been thrown at the garage door, according to an MPD incident report filed by Officer Julie Treadway.

The man told police he did not know who would have committed the vandalism, and the investigation into the matter continues.

Convicted felon caught with stolen gun
A Murfreesboro man who is a convicted felon is facing multiple charges after he was allegedly caught with a stolen gun Saturday at Woodlands Apartments on North Rutherford Boulevard.

Keiron D. Nelson, 22, has been charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and misdemeanor theft, according to an MPD arrest report filed by Officer Tyler Smith.

When police responded to the scene in reference to an armed suspect, Nelson allegedly tried to flee into a nearby apartment. He was then ordered at gunpoint to stop, at which point Nelson listened to verbal commands and advised officers he was armed.

Once detained, police found a fully loaded pistol, which held 11 rounds, concealed in his waistband.

Nelson told police that he had discovered the gun lying beside a trashcan but never notified police. But when Smith conducted a routine serial number check, he learned a La Vergne man reported in October that the gun had been stolen from his home.

Smith then took Nelson into custody and transported him to the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center, where he was charged accordingly. He is being held on a $7,000 bond and is scheduled to appear Feb. 9 in General Sessions Court.

Fraudulent checks passed
An investigation has been opened into a possible fraudulent check-cashing ring, according to officials with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office.

Three fraudulent checks have been passed on a bogus Rutherford County Landfill account for more than $350 each at a rural Rutherford County store and two Williamson County stores. The checks appear to be from SunTrust Bank on East Main Street in Murfreesboro.

Anyone with information about the suspect or suspects passing the fraudulent checks should contact the Sheriff’s Office at 615-904-3048.
