Police apprehended a 27-year-old suspect Thursday who they believe is the person responsible for the recent robbery of the Quick and Easy Tobacco Store in Smyrna.

Daniel B. Walton, of La Vergne, has been charged with aggravated robbery in connection with the Aug. 11 robbery, which occurred in the 1200 block of Hazelwood Drive, according to a Smyrna Police Department press release.

Walton, who is already facing a robbery charge in an unrelated case, is being held on a $55,000 bond at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center.

He is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on the most recent charge Thursday, Aug. 23, in Smyrna General Sessions Court.

Jewelry taken from assisted living apartment

A woman discovered Tuesday that more than $1,000 worth of jewelry had been stolen from her deceased aunt’s apartment at Adams Place Retirement Community in Murfreesboro.

The incident occurred some time between Aug. 1 and Aug. 10 in the 1900 block of Memorial Boulevard, only a few days after the woman’s aunt died, according to a Murfreesboro Police Department incident report.

Among the items stolen include a diamond ring, gold wedding band and gold pendant.

Because there was no sign of forced entry into the residence, an investigation has been opened into whether an employee is responsible for the theft.

City property reported stolen

An employee of the Murfreesboro Water and Sewer Department reported Tuesday that three water valve covers had been taken from the roadway near the intersection of Old Salem Highway and Patterson Road.

The incident occurred some time between Monday night and Tuesday morning near the 500 block of Patterson Road, according to a Murfreesboro Police Department incident report.

The cast iron covers are estimated to be worth more than $35 each.

As of Thursday, no one had been arrested or charged in connection with the thefts, and the incident remains under investigation.
