A 23-year-old woman was allegedly robbed Monday night while walking to a friend’s house behind Tractor Supply Company near South Rutherford and Mercury boulevards in Murfreesboro.

The woman told police a man grabbed her from behind, forced her to the ground, and began punching and kicking her in the stomach, chest and legs. He then stole her wallet, which contained $60 and her driver’s license, before running off toward First National Bank on Mercury Boulevard, according to a Murfreesboro Police Department incident report.

Even though the woman was injured during the incident, she was able to run to a nearby apartment and call police, at which point officers began searching for the suspect as detectives began the investigation.

Despite canvassing the area, police did not immediately locate the suspect.

The suspect is described as a 6-foot-tall man who was wearing a black hooded jacket and sweatpants at the time of the incident. Due to the nature of the attack, the woman could not identify the man’s race.

As of Wednesday, no one had been arrested or charged in connection with the robbery, and the incident remains under investigation.

Meth lab found inside storage unit

Officers discovered what appeared to be a methamphetamine lab Monday at Ideal Storage in Murfreesboro after learning from an anonymous tipster that people were manufacturing the drug inside one of the units.

The source told authorities the group has been producing the drug late at night for a substantial period of time, according to a Murfreesboro Police Department incident report.

Officers responded to the scene with a K-9 unit just before 11 a.m. in the 1000 block of Seals Way, located off Park Avenue, and conducted a foot and scent search of the grounds.

During the search, police noticed gray matter on the rocks in front of a storage unit, which was emitting a chemical smell, as well as multiple cigarette butts, foil strips and food wrappers. In addition, a plastic blue drum that contained several Claritin-D packages, a Tennessee driver’s license, lighter fluid and plastic tubing was also situated next to the unit.

Detectives were then called to the scene to secure the area and collect evidence, and an investigation into the matter has since been opened.

Patrol car tagged with gang graffiti

An unknown number of suspects tagged gang graffiti on numerous Middle Tennessee State University on-campus structures and a Murfreesboro police officer’s patrol car Sunday night near the intersection of Alumni Drive and North Rutherford Boulevard.

In addition, the entrance sign at Campus Crossings Apartments, located on the northern side of campus, was also sprayed with gang-related symbols.

In total, more than $1,000 worth of property was damaged during the incident, according to a Murfreesboro Police Department and MTSU Department of Public Safety incident reports.

Much of the graffiti featured the number “74” and pitchfork symbols, which is often associated with the Gangster Disciples, an organization that has spread from its Chicago roots to large portions of the United States in recent decades.

As such, detectives with the Vice and Gang units also responded to the scene to collect evidence, and an investigation has since been opened into the vandalism.

How brave! Vandalizing a police car! Bravo, idiots. Don't they know they were being recorded? People look at this and laugh. I don't see how they can. These police cars were bought with Taxpayers money. The vandals also don't realize that the police have names, addresses, etc. of every suspected gang member in the area. Also, MPD Don't give up. Only a matter of time before these guys are caught. They were wanting to be caught!
