Smyrna police are asking the public for help in identifying two men who allegedly stole tools from Gil’s Ace Hardware in early October.

On Oct. 10, the two unidentified suspects who were accompanied by a female child entered Gil’s Ace Hardware, located at 415 Nissan Drive, and allegedly stole several power tools, according to a Smyrna Police Department press release.

The men are accused of removing the packaging from the tools, concealing the items in their clothing, and walking out of the store without paying for the products.

Witnesses told police the men were last seen fleeing the area in a silver, four-door vehicle that appeared to have black rims on the wheels.

Officials released video surveillance footage Wednesday and are hoping someone will be able to identify the suspects, both of whom are dark-haired white males.

Based on the still images released to the public, one suspect was wearing a red, long-sleeve shirt and blue jeans. The other unidentified man was wearing a gray shirt, blue jeans and baseball cap when the incident occurred.

Anyone with information about this incident should call Alan Nabours, a detective with the Police Department, at 615-459-6644.

Police looking for sex offender

Authorities have issued an arrest warrant for a man who has been convicted of several sex crimes involving minors after detectives learned that he might be living close to Saint Rose of Lima Catholic School.

For nearly a year, 32-year-old Kodi R. Chaney has reported to officials that he lives with his grandmother at Cason Estates in Murfreesboro.

During a recent home verification check, detectives learned Chaney has never lived at the apartment complex, located in the 1600 block of Cason Lane, according to a Murfreesboro Police Department incident report.

Further investigation revealed that Chaney has possibly been living in the 1600 block of North Tennessee Boulevard near the Catholic school.

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation website, Chaney was convicted in December 2005 of criminal attempt to commit aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, as well as mitigated statutory rape.

In November 2004, he was convicted of statutory rape in another case.

Chaney is described as a black male who is 6 feet tall and weighs an estimated 200 pounds.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts should call Crime Stoppers at 615-893-7867.
