Police are looking for the suspect who allegedly robbed a Murfreesboro family at gunpoint Sunday during a late-night home invasion in the 200 block of Battle Avenue.
A woman and her boyfriend were at home with their infant daughter when the suspect kicked in the front door just after 10 p.m., pulled out a black handgun, and began demanding money, according to a Murfreesboro Police Department incident report.
The armed suspect quickly made off with $40 in cash, which the woman had been forced to retrieve from her purse, and a bottle of prescription medicine that was on top of the living room coffee table.
More than $300 worth of property was also damaged during the incident.
The couple told police the suspect was last spotted fleeing the scene on a bicycle toward Bridge Avenue.
During the initial investigation, the woman said she believed the suspect might be an acquaintance, but she did not elaborate on how all of the involved parties could possibly know each other.
Detectives have since taken over the case, and the matter remains under investigation.
Woman fends off sexual assault
An unidentified suspect armed with a wooden board allegedly tried to sexually assault a woman Sunday night as she was walking along John R. Rice Boulevard in Murfreesboro.
The incident occurred just before 10 p.m. behind Tractor Supply, located in the 100 block of John R. Rice Boulevard off Old Fort Parkway, according to a Murfreesboro Police Department incident report.
The Ohio native told police she sat down on the sidewalk for a moment while talking to her boyfriend on a cell phone when the suspect approached, grabbed her by the arm, and attempted to unbutton her pants.
As the woman was fighting back in self-defense, the man hit her with a wooden board and ran away from the scene.
Although the woman’s boyfriend called police as soon as he realized something was wrong, law enforcement officials were unable to locate the suspect immediately after the incident.
Emergency medical personnel also responded to the scene and transported the woman to Middle Tennessee Medical Center, where she was treated for injuries sustained in the assault.
The suspect is described as a white male with brown hair and a goatee, and he was wearing a green sweatshirt when the assault occurred.
Anyone with information about this incident should call Crime Stoppers at 615-893-7867.
