CRIME BRIEFS: Detectives investigating shooting

An 18-year-old man was shot in the leg during an altercation over money Thursday night outside of the CiCi's Pizza Buffet in the 200 block of Memorial Boulevard in Murfreesboro.

The man was injured just before 10 p.m. when he attempted to collect on a debt from one of the two suspects who were sitting in a dark-colored Chrysler PT Cruiser outside of the restaurant, according to a Murfreesboro Police Department incident report.

Within moments of the argument, an unidentified black male suspect exited the vehicle and pointed a small handgun at the man, who was then shot while he was walking away from the car.

The suspects then fled the scene toward Saint Clair Street, while the man waited for several minutes before calling friends to drive him to Middle Tennessee Medical Center. Upon his arrival at the hospital, emergency room physicians reported the shooting to police.

One of the suspects is described as a white male who known only by his first name, Austin, and the other is a black male with dreadlocks. Both are believed to be in their late-teens or early-20s.

Robbery suspect taken into custody

A Murfreesboro man wanted in Rutherford County in connection with several robberies was apprehended Thursday near the intersection of East Castle Street and South Maney Avenue.

Labaron C. Hickerson, 18, was taken into custody on four counts of robbery moments after patrol officers who knew he had active warrants observed him riding a bicycle in the area, according to a Murfreesboro Police Department arrest report.

Hickerson was transported to the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center, where he is being held on a $16,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on all the charges Thursday, Aug. 9, in General Sessions Court.

License plate reported stolen

A 21-year-old Murfreesboro man discovered Wednesday evening an unidentified suspect stole the license plate off his car that was parked behind his residence in the 100 block of South Bilbro Avenue.

The theft of the $100 state-issued tag occurred some time before 4 p.m. near the intersection of East Main Street and Middle Tennessee Boulevard, according to a Murfreesboro Police Department incident report.

No information regarding a possible suspect was immediately available, and the investigation into the matter continues.
