CRIME BRIEFS: Couple charged with prescription fraud

A couple were each charged Nov. 16 with two counts of prescription fraud, after a Nashville detective notified the Murfreesboro Police Department the two suspects were allegedly selling illegally obtained drugs.

Dana Brown, 30, who worked at a local doctor’s office until she was arrested, is accused of writing prescriptions for Hydrocodone using her employer’s identity, according to an Murfreesboro Police Department arrest report.

Her 34-year-old husband, Michael, is also accused of receiving the medication without a valid prescription.

Both are being held without bond at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. A preliminary hearing has been set for Dec. 12 in General Sessions Court.

Man facing multiple statutory rape charges
A man was charged with two counts of statutory rape Nov. 16 for allegedly having sexual relations with a 14-year-old girl he met via Facebook.

William M. Benford, 21, was arrested when officers responded to a complaint of a suspicious vehicle that was parked on Warmingfield Drive and discovered the two in his car, according to a Murfreesboro Police Department arrest report.

According to the report, the girl told police she had met Benford twice, the first time three weeks ago. She said they had engaged in sexual acts on both occasions, which resulted in the multiple charges.

Benford was transported and held on a $6,000 bond at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. He is scheduled to appear Dec. 8 in General Sessions Court for a preliminary hearing.

Sisters accused of stealing from Wal-Mart
Two women were arrested on suspicion of theft Nov. 17 at Wal-Mart on Old Fort Parkway when a loss prevention employee allegedly caught them trying to steal more than $250 in merchandise.

Rebecca Floyd, 25, and her 27-year-old sister, Angela Floyd, have each been charged with misdemeanor theft. They are accused of attempting to steal $160 worth of clothing, more than $30 in hygiene products, four pairs of sunglasses and two items of jewelry, according to a Murfreesboro Police Department incident report.

They were transported to the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center and each held on a $1,500 bond. They are scheduled to appear Jan. 18 in General Sessions Court.

Police break up meth lab
One man is facing multiple drug-related charges after law enforcement shut down an alleged methamphetamine lab Saturday at a home on Douglas Street – all thanks to an anonymous tip.

Richard Sloan, 19, has been charged with the initiation of a process to manufacture methamphetamine, possession of a Schedule II drug, and felony possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a Murfreesboro Police Department arrest report.

The Tennessee Methamphetamine Task Force was also called to the scene to dispose of the hazardous materials.

After being cleared medically, Sloan was transported to the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center, where he was held on an $18,000 bond. A preliminary hearing has been set for Jan. 12 in General Sessions Court.
