Cox's record toss highlights Ed Temple Classic | MT track, Dean Hayes

Brittany Cox won shot put at the Ed Temple Classic setting a new Middle Tennessee record with a toss of 49-0.75 (14.95m).
The Middle Tennessee track and field squads competed at the Ed Temple Classic at the Wilma Rudolph Indoor Track Complex at Gentry Center on Sunday. The meet was highlighted by Brittany Cox's toss of 49-0.75 (14.95m) in the shot put, which broke her own Middle Tennessee indoor record from a season ago.

Cherice Robertson and Ann Dudley also had highlights during the afternoon for the women's team. Robertson won both the high jump and the 55 meter hurdles in a respective mark and time of 5-8 (1.73m) and 8.06. Dudley finished fourth in both events at 5-2.25 (1.58m) and 8.59.

Nyeisha Wright won both the long and triple jump events with recorded leaps of 18-8 (5.69m) and 38-11 (11.86m), respectively. Kortney Thurman posted a second place finish in the long jump with mark of 18-1.5 (5.52m).

The women's distance medley relay team of Zamzam Sangau, Alissa Ruggle, Stephanie Smith and Jackie Serem also took first place overall finishing in a time of 12:45.41.

On the men's side, Festus Chemaoi and David Emery stole the top two spots in the 800 meters finishing with respective times of 1:54.51 and 1:56.07. The duo also took first place with the men's distance medley relay in a time of 10:26.04.

DeRay Sloss finished second in the 55 meters in a time of 7.55.

Curtis King was the top placing sprinter, taking fourth in the 55 meters in a time of 6.42.

Today's meet served as an excellent gage for the athletes before they travel to Lexington, Ky., next weekend for the Kentucky Invitational.
