Rutherford County’s Bicycle Safety Subcommittee unveiled a new video Monday expected to air on channel 19.

May is National Bike Safety month and the subcommittee has been working on several projects to bring awareness about safety and the law regarding cyclists in Rutherford County.

The video was presented to the Public Safety Committee with an emphasis on wearing a helmet and proper signaling. It will air on channel 19, the county’s television station.

“This helps people know what the rules of the road are and how to check their bicycles,” Bike Safety Subcommittee Chair Sarah Lovett said.

The subcommittee also organized the Ride of Silence that took place last week. Nearly 25 cyclists met at the courthouse to kick off a six mile ride in silence with police escort to honor cyclists who have been killed by motorists, Lovett told the committee.
