Citizens may tour the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office and Adult Detention Center and view its operations during an open house from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 14 at the 940 New Salem Highway facility in Murfreesboro.

The tour will allow citizens to learn first-hand how their tax dollars are used at administrative offices and the nine-story detention center that now houses some 700 inmates, said Sheriff Robert F. Arnold.

Deputies will give guided tours jail, including the sally port where prisoners are brought in, the booking area if available and the towers where inmates are housed, Arnold said.

The detention center was completed in 1998. Total capacity is 958 beds.

Visitors will also tour the offices, the squad room where shift officers meet daily for roll call and communications where calls are received and dispatched.

Citizens should enter the Visitation Lobby located by the fences.
