Thursday's meeting of the Murfreesboro City Council was possibly a record-setting affair, lasting only fourteen minutes.
Vice Mayor Chris Bratcher presided in Mayor Tommy Bragg's absence.
New business included an emergency purchase of road binder for the South Maney Revitalization Project in order to control road dust, and a legal agreement to extend the statute of limitations for three police officers claiming additional wages.
Two current and one former officer are seeking unpaid wages they claim are owed to them.
The claims are approaching the three-year statute of limitations. City Attorney Susan McGannon proposed a "tolling agreement" which would freeze the statute for 30 days and give the city a chance to investigate the claim's merit.
Councilman Toby Gilley motioned for approval of both items and they were approved unanimously.
Also gaining approval, all on unanimous vote:
• Third reading to amend the city's Self-Insurance Program for purposes of modifying and maintaining the long-term disability and life insurance benefits independently of other city employee benefits. • A recommendation by City Manager Rob Lyons to postpone for 30 days scheduled changes to the employee sick and bereavement leave policy due to feedback from various city departments. • A request to use $24,999 of Community Development Block Grant funds for assistance to a homebuyer purchasing property at 451 Tulane Court under the Affordable Housing Assistance Program. |
