On World Down Syndrome Day, Saturday, March 21, VSA Arts of Tennessee and MTSU’s organizational communication class will hold a children’s festival from 2 pm-4 pm at MTSU’s Reese Smith Jr. Baseball Field preceding the game against Florida Atlantic.

The "Cooper’s Field of Dreams" festival is open to all children with and without disabilities, and will include games, face painting, arts and crafts, photos with MTSU’s mascot, music, and other exciting activities.

Selected children will be able to run onto the outfield with a baseball player and have his/her name announced with the player, and one lucky child will throw out the first pitch of the game. All children will be allowed to run the bases after the game.

Free tickets will be provided for the first 50 children who register and one adult per child. Additional tickets are available through VSA Arts of Tennessee at the discounted rate of $4 per person, which will include entry into the festival and the game. Registration forms are available at vsaartstennessee.org by contacting Lori Kissinger at userk7706@aol.com or by calling (615) 826-5252.

The festival is being dedicated to Cooper Rafe Cox, a 2-month-old child with Down Syndrome who has recently been fighting for his life at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital. He is suffering from a severe heart defect and is waiting for a much-needed operation.

His mother, Emily Bumbalough Cox, says that she and her husband Zac Cox never knew they could love anyone so much. To see family pictures and read more about baby Cooper’s condition, visit Emily’s blog at http://ezandccox.blogspot.com.

Cooper’s Field of Dreams is sponsored by Coastal Risk Services and MTSU’s National Panhellenic Council.

Registration forms and checks made out to VSA of TN should be mailed no later than March 15, 2009, to VSA Arts TN, 1210 Lake Rise Place, Gallatin, TN 37066. For more information, please contact Lori Kissinger at userk7706@aol.com or by calling (615) 826-5252.
