A drive-by shooting near the intersection of East Chestnut and North Academy streets left one dead shortly after midnight on Labor Day, Murfreesboro Police annouced early Monday morning.

“There were numerous shots fired into a house and also three vehicles were hit,” MPD spokesman Maj. Clyde Adkison said.

Shots were fired into a family cookout celebrating a wedding in the front yard at a residence on East Chestnut Street.

The victim is a male from Alabama. His name is being withheld pending notification of all family members.

“At this time, we know of no other victims that were shot,” Adkison said.
