One of the suspects charged in connection with the September 2011 holdup of a man at a Regions Bank drive-up ATM machine on Middle Tennessee Boulevard pled guilty to aggravated robbery Monday in Rutherford County Circuit Court.

Judge Don Ash sentenced Murfreesboro resident Alex J. Green, 22, to six years in prison with the eligibility of parole in two years, as part of a plea agreement that prosecutors submitted to the court.

Green, who is a convicted felon, was on probation when he robbed a man at gunpoint and stole $140, as he was withdrawing money from the ATM machine, according to court documents.

He has remained in custody at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center since he was arrested less than two weeks after the robbery occurred.

Officials with the Murfreesboro Police Department praised the outcome, as well as the hard work by detectives.

“All of our criminal investigators do a great job of investigating cases and following them through the court system,” said Kyle Evans, public information officer for the Police Department. “Many criminals plead guilty because of the strength of the investigation and quality of the investigative work.”

One of the other suspects, 25-year-old Deeara D. Waggoner, is scheduled to appear Tuesday, April 16, in Circuit Court.

Waggoner is accused of driving the getaway car in the robbery.

According to court documents, Waggoner, who at the time was pregnant with her fourth child, was also on probation when the robbery occurred. She was reportedly paid $20 for driving the getaway car.

She was also scheduled to enter a plea Monday as well, either guilty or not guilty. After Waggoner and her defense attorney spoke with prosecutors privately, Ash agreed to reschedule the court date for later this month – a signal she will likely accept a similar plea agreement.

“We work well with the District Attorney’s office in prosecuting cases,” Evans said, “and this positive relationship results in putting criminals behind bars and making Murfreesboro a safer community."

I think that it's great that they caught Green. I am always hearing something on the news about robberies. I am a student at MTSU and it's nice to know that they police are going to take care of situations like these. I have no idea what would possess a man to do something like this. I don't think it was a very smart move on his part. This is a prime example of why we need to be careful about letting the prisoners out on parole. I am always hearing something about someone getting hurt or killed by someone that was on parole. As for Waggoner, 20 dollars? I wonder if she enjoyed the money before she got caught. I feel so sorry for the children of Waggoner. It is sad that they have to deal with this situation that their mother is involved in. My mother teaches school and it’s crazy to see how many children come through her school that have fathers or mothers in prison/jail. It really affects their over all performance in the classroom. It’s a sad situation for everyone that is involved.
Thank you Murfreesboro Police Department. You all do a great job in keeping our city safe!
