It’s time to head to the polls again.
All 48 county voting precinct polls are open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursday for the state and federal primary, where senate and house candidates will be decided, and local general election, where various county offices will be filled.
“In order to speed up the process and to avoid possible confusion at the voting booth, voters should be prepared before they get into the voting booths.” Said Hooper Penuel, Rutherford County elections administrator.

WHERE DO I VOTE?
Voters are encouraged to ask for assistance before casting their vote or during voting if a problem arises.
“The voter is reminded that once the cast vote button has been pressed, it's too late to recall the voter's selection,” Penuel said.
Voters should also have an appropriate form of signature-bearing identification with them when they arrive at their assigned polling place.
If voters choose to vote in the state and federal primary, they must choose a party preference, either Democrat or Republican. Depending on the voter’s choice, only party candidates will appear on the ballot, along with county general election candidates.
“If the voter chooses not vote in either party primary, then the voter will only see the Rutherford County General ballot on the voting machine,” Penuel said.
Sample ballots are available at the Rutherford County Election Commission, at each early voting site through Aug. 2 and from the County Election Commission Web site. Sample Ballots will also be on display at each precinct on Election Day.
Voters can contact the Rutherford County Election Commission with questions or concerns about the Election process by visiting its Web site at www.rutherfordcountytn.gov/election or by calling 615-898-7743.
The county general election features contested races for superintendent of roads, property assessor and two school or road board seats, and uncontested races for members of the county road board and Rutherford County Board of Education.
Incumbent Road Superintendent Mike Williams is running against Allen “Buddy” Gambill Jr.
Incumbent John Barbee takes on Bill D. Boner of Cripple Creek Farms for the Rutherford County Assessor of Property job.
Jared Barrett runs against Paul Johnson for the road board’s zone 6 seat.
School Board member Grant Kelley is challenged by Rob Vaughter for his seat on Rutherford County Board of Education.
State senate and house races feature at least one contested party primary for every seat in the election.
In the most contested primary race, two Democrats and three Republicans will see who represents their parties for John Hood’s vacated 48th District state House seat. Rick Parks faces off against Tim Tipps for the Democratic nomination. While Joe Carr, Jon Jaques and Lou Ann Zelenik battle for the Republican nod.
In the other state races, Democrats Dee Butler and Jean Ann Rogers face off for voters to decide who will challenge Sen. Jim Tracy for the 16th District state Senate Seat in November.
Rep. Donna Rowland’s Democratic challenger will also be chosen from Jerome Perkins and Dr. Rishi Saxena for the 34th District state House of Representatives seat.
Kevin Fisher and Rick Womick face off for the Republican nomination for the 49th District state House of Representatives seat currently held by Kent Coleman.
Three Republicans Barbara Blanton, Chris Brown and Frederick “Danny” Lowe, fight it out to challenge Curt Cobb for the 62th District state House seat.
