WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Scott DesJarlais, M.D. (TN-04) released the following statement after voting against on H.R. 3361 – The USA Freedom Act:

“I have significant concerns regarding how the NSA has engaged in bulk collection of data on American citizens. Not only is this practice inconsistent with our fundamental notions of privacy, I believe it violates our Constitutional Fourth Amendment rights. It was my hope that today’s legislation would have ended this unconstitutional spying by the government, but unfortunately last minute changes to the original bill made it ineffective in stopping the NSA’s abuse of power.”
