Tennessee Department of Transportation has given conditional approval for a traffic plan for the proposed Bible Park USA, a project consultant said.
SafeHarbor is proposing to build the Bible-oriented park in the Blackman community.
“We are very excited with this additional step to get the traffic plan finalized,” said consultant Terri Sterling of Sterling Communications.
Once a few more decisions are made the park developers hope to hold a large-scale public meeting for people to comment on the proposed park, Sterling said.
“We are working on several fronts to get those decisions made,” she said.
No date has been set for the meeting.

The PR for this project has been handled in an astonishingly inept manner.

This is only one step toward getting the Bible Park plan through. Don't give up on petitioning the City and County leaders regarding your disapproval of the Bible Park. Sometimes it seems like a never ending battle, but you never know what might happen. So don't give in. Keep letting your commissioners and city officials know how you feel about this. There are probably some things going on behind the backs of the taxpayers, but just keep in mind "it is not over until the final "yes" is given.

Tell everyone you know about this so they find out about and can in turn they can tell others. The word needs to go forth that this project is still going forward when many thought it had gone away.

The wheels have long since been greased. Calm periods, times when nothing appears to be happening, will be punctuated by releases of little tidbits like this and then suddenly, or so it will seem, everything will be in place, and there will be no turning back.
This is not the only piece that is already in place. You will be given a chance to comment, but it will be no more than window dressing, giving the equivalent of deniability to elected officials; a mere sham. The kind of thing TDOT is notorious for. You can comment, register complaints, but the decisions will already have been made. They just won't be disclosed until after the so-called hearing.
If you want it to be otherwise, you will have to find a way to embarrass elected officials. Barring that, your only choice will be to vote them out next chance you get. It won't stop this project, but it might stop the next one.

Over the years, I have attended and participated in a number of "public hearings" in Rutherford County and surrounding areas to oppose certain government and private building projects deemed to be not in the best interests of taxpayers. Among the "hearings" were the dam project at Normandy, the dam project at Columbia, the BFI landfill project at Walter Hill, and, most recently, the BFI (Allied) permit renewal hearing at Walter Hill. In all cases the public voice fell on totally deaf official ears.
For those who believe that opposing the Blackman bible park venture at a "public hearing" will stop the project, I have choice ocean view vacation lots for sale at a very reasonable price on beautiful Devon Island just north of Murfreesboro.

I don't see why so many are complaining. To me it seems like this park will make all the property in that area more valuable? Why would it not? I live on the other side of town, so maybe I am missing something. I didn't like the Wally World on Rutherford, it has greatly increased traffic around it. But in the end I think it only makes my property worth more.

Yes, development like the Bible Park USA will make your property more valuable if you want to sale it for commercial purposes. I would not think any of us would want to see this type development near us if we planned to remain in our homes.

Bring it on! WE need more jobs, more tax revenue, more people visiting to pay sales taxes, more people visiting that will re-locate here. Weather it is a Bible Park or Disney, bring it on!
By:

WE need more and more...more people to jam the already overcrowded roads and back up the clogged intersections...more automobiles to pollute our already foul air, despite the auto emissions testing scheme...more people to build more houses over more and more good farmland...more people requiring more school construction requiring more tax revenue... more teachers requiring increased funding from county and state tax dollars to teach more and more children of more people who "re-locate" here... more firemen, more law enforcement officers, more social welfare personnel to handle more problems for more people...more and more crime, more drugs, more robberies, and more shootouts in quiet neighborhoods...more gangs...more bodies found in ditches along more roads... more miles of waterlines, sewer lines and power lines requiring more money and higher utility rates...more roads requiring more and more tax funded construction costs...more garbage buried beside less and less water supply that more and more people drink...
WE need more, alright...more elected officials, more lawmakers, and more people in decision making positions at local and state levels who are more concerned about the quality of life and living space than they are about more and more.
Finally, WE need less in the way of Bible or Disney theme parks. We have enough fun watching the drama of a theme park deal quietly unfolding in spite of the wishes of more and more people.

cmac, get over it, do you realize you live in Rutherford County? If everything stopped growing today, this County would be bankrupt in two years! We have to have growth just to keep up.

cmac...you make sense, thank you. The Murf is totally outta control. If Murfreesboro was a rock band everyone would call us sell outs.

this thing will be growing weeds in 3 years tops. good opportunity for maybe a business park to move, because the infrastructure will already be in place
By:
titansone on 1/26/08
Oldman, I agree. I just don't think this will draw people in very much. Seems to me that church groups might come in for field trips and locals may come to check it out when it's new. But what would draw repeat visitors? Opryland had variety with music and rides, but looking at the "burning bush" more than a time or two would be pretty boring for the average kid. Whining kids = unhappy parents = let's just go to Gatlinburg...

Heres the deal. It is Tax Revenue for Rutherford county. If its in your back yard, so be it. There is nothing wrong with free enterprise. This town will only grow, if you don't want to grow with it, move to Woodbury.
By:
koln on 1/26/08
The only thing free in this enterprise is the subsidy from public funds being given to Bar-Tur and his investors. You would never hear from them again if 100% of the costs and financing had to come from their pockets.

Bluesman - Do I realize I live in Rutherford County? Now, you are trying to be humerous. ]:D
I've lived in this county for over 50 years, my friend. I lived here before the interstate, Nissan, Walmart, Stone's River Mall, urban sprawl, traffic jams, exhaust check stations, etc., etc. etc. In fact, I chose Rutherford County as a place to settle and raise a family because it was, then, an excellent place to live. Good schools, a quality college, all the retail stores anyone needs, and only 30 miles from the BIG CITY of Nashville, Tennessee.
I would not choose Rutherford County as a place to settle and raise a family today simply because it has evolved into an overpopulated, polluted, dangerous, crime ridden, frustrating, undesirable place to live.
You might be interested to know that Rutherford County was far from "bankrupt" before this so-called "progressive expansion" began. What you seem to consider "progress" is uncontrolled growth. Rutherford's economy may not be bankrupt at present, but it's quality of life is getting pretty darn close to it.
By the way, how long have you been here and was the place you moved from worse?
Welcome to Rutherford County, and you are welcome to it.
