Seventy students from Stewarts Creek High School will join forces with sixty community members to perform Mozart's final masterpiece on Sunday, April 27 at 3:00 in the SCHS Theater. This marks the inaugural performance of the Stewarts Creek Choral Union, the community chorus that will sing with the high school choirs.
The choral singers will be joined by the Falco Russo Chamber Orchestra, also a collaborative ensemble of high school students and community members.
"This is an exciting way to end the inaugural year with the Stewarts Creek Choirs," said Dr. Brian Russell, choral director at Stewarts Creek High School. "The students not only get to perform one of the finest pieces of choral literature ever written, but they get to experience it with members of the community from all walks of life and with a genuine love for music and performing. It is my hope that this performance will spur the students on to a life-long love of music-making and learning as exemplified by the Choral Union."
The Requiem was Mozart's final piece, written in the last days of his life in the throws of poor health and poverty. This performance will feature five professional soloists and will last about an hour. Tickets are $8.00 and available at the door.
